Kitui imaging center: How much impact has the Kitui Imaging Center Had?

Well in my view, the Kitui Imaging Center has had a huge positive impact in the lives of Kitui residents.

Firstly, the Kitui imaging center has reduced the distances that Kitui residents have to travel, to access advanced medical services. So you find that some of the services offered at the Kitui imaging center are services that were previously only available in Nairobi. Yet by the time some of the patients get to Kitui town, they have already traveled for hundreds of kilometers. Take, for instance, a patient coming to Kitui town from Mutha or from Endau or from Nuu. Getting to Kitui town for such people is a big deal by itself. It previously used to be very heartbreaking for such patients to learn that the services they were looking for couldn’t be accessed at Kitui – meaning that they would have to travel even further to Nairobi. Some would actually give up at this point and decide to leave everything to fate. But thanks to Kitui imaging center (which charges surprisingly affordable rates), that is no longer the case – and it is a big deal.

Secondly, the Kitui imaging center has reduced the costs that Kitui residents have to incur, in search of advanced medical services. As noted earlier, some of the services on offer at Kitui imaging center are services that would previously have necessitated travel to Nairobi – which would then have meant incurring not just the medical bills, but also fare and accommodation expenses.

Thirdly, the Kitui imaging center has made it possible for Kitui residents to access certain medical services that would otherwise have been out of reach for some of them. Some of the consultants one is able to access at the Kitui imaging center are consultants that were previously only accessible in Nairobi. And because some of the residents of Kitui view Nairobi as ‘too far away’, they would just give up --and leave everything to fate -- on the pursuit of the medical services upon being told that they could only access them in Nairobi. That is no longer the case, as Kitui imaging center has brought world class medical services (at locally affordable rates) to Kitui town.
