On the night before a Saturday, and unable to get sleep for
some reason, I am listening to Nelson Kawawa on Citizen Radio Sabato program. I
gather that it is a program meant for Seventh Day Adventists (SDAs) and the general public, on the
night before Sabbath meetings. What I soon come to love about Nelson Kawawa’s
Sabath Program is the choice of music: those soothing SDA choir songs make up
most of the playlist.
I notice that Kawawa’s playlist is not just made up of
Kenyan SDA choir songs, but also of Tanzania SDA choirs, Congo SDA choirs and I
actually even heard an acapela song from a Zimbabwean choir.
As the show progresses, the listeners are allowed to send
their Sabbath greetings to their friends and relatives. Some also send
greetings to their churches.
Then there comes a point where bible teachings are given (Nelson
Kawawa’s show is a long one, running from I think 12 am to 5 or is 4 am). So in
the course of it, I notice that there is also a bible teaching, with what I
think is a pre-recorded sermon being delivered by a SDA preacher known as
Pastor Munyao from one of the SDA churches.
Eventually
I doze, but not before taking note of just how Mister Kawawa manages to remain
focused throughout the entire [lengthy] show.
