Why does the Kenya Prison recruitment attract less publicity than the Kenya police recruitment?

Well, I think that there is one main reason as to why the Kenya prison recruitment usually attracts less publicity than the Kenya police recruitment. It is in the fact that there are more people with ambitions of becoming Kenya police officers (compared to the people who have ambitions of becoming Kenya prisons officers). For that reason, the Kenya police recruitment exercise is usually one that is widely anticipated by very many people, including individuals who have had desires of becoming police officers from their childhoods. This may be attributable to the fact that more people get a chance to see Kenya police officers at work, but relatively few people get a chance to see Kenya prisons officers at work. Furthermore, there is this perception that Kenya police work – whether in the regular police, administration police (Kenya AP) or general service unit (Kenya GSU) is perhaps more lucrative than Kenya prisons work.
It helps too that the Kenya police recruitment exercise is usually very widely publicized, sometimes with newspaper ads announcing weeks in advance. On the other hand, although the Kenya prisons recruitment exercise is still publicized [nowadays with Daily Nation and Standard ads], it is not as much as the Kenya police recruitment exercise.
But in actual fact, the Kenya prisons recruitment is just as worthwhile as the Kenya police recruitment exercise. That is because when all is said and done, both prisons and police officers are important pillars in the criminal justice system. And in any event, what you stand to earn as a Kenya prisons officer (in terms of the rightful official salary) would almost be the same as what you stand to earn as a Kenya police officer in terms of the rightful official salary. Admittedly though, opportunities to earn various allowances for special assignments while working as a Kenya police officer may be slightly more than similar opportunities for special allowances wile working as a Kenya prisons officer. But I think that the difference is small.
